Comfortable and Chic Clothes

, , , , , , , , ,

We live in a society that’s moving non-stop. By the time you’ve finished work, the kids are home from school, and dinner is made, all you can think about is changing into joggers and a t-shirt. As tempting as this sounds, it’s not beneficial. Getting into the lazy habit of lounging about the house in ill-fitted, worn and mismatched cotton doesn’t do anything for your mood or your confidence.

Think of the lounge clothes in your closet. Do they fit you? Do the colours make you feel good, and energise you? How do these clothes make you appear to others? You may only be doing laundry and squeezing in a bit of yoga on your Sunday afternoon, but Style Doctors sticks to our motto of, “If you look good, you feel good.” And this motto should apply to all aspects of life – even if you’re just hanging around the house. So whether you’re watching the kids or staying at home with a friend, loungewear has the potential to be fashionable and chic. (And still comfortable!)

Mango palazzo trousers | French Connection jumper | ASOS platforms | Topshop bracelets | Clinique CC cream | Bobbi Brown illuminator

The key to mastering the loungewear look is making sure that it can be transitioned with a few pieces for wearing outside. Keep in mind the shoes and accessories you can wear with your outfit, and keep them easy to wear and neutral. Your lounging outfit will be comfy and simple, so you don’t want your accessories to be too over the top.

Your makeup should also fit this easy going theme. Think illuminators, BB and CC creams, and neutral eye shadows. There’s nothing wrong with an eyeliner or a pop of colour on your lips, as long as the look remains clean.

Levi’s dungarees | Topshop t-shirt | Topshop trainers | Eastpak bag | Miss KG sunglasses | Deborah Lippmann nail polish

Fit is important, but clothes don’t have to be tight in order to fit correctly. Palazzo trousers, dungarees, t-shirt dresses, and joggers can all be flattering if the fit is correct. Like you’ve seen above, the best loungewear outfits can be transformed into easy street style looks with just a few additions – like shoes and bags.

So as long as you remember simplicity, fit, and versatility, your loungewear looks will definitely be on point. How To Style A Scarf

, , , , , , , ,

fur-scarf-feature-image-style-doctors-personal-stylistsIf you’re like the majority of women, you probably have a box or a bag or a hanging carousel of scarves that you’ve collected over the years. Maybe you wear some of them, and maybe you haven’t touched them in six months. Style Doctors wants you to utilise your scarves to their highest potential, so that’s why we’re here with some helpful advice and styling tips on how to wear a scarf.

Spring Cleaning

Alright, it doesn’t need to be spring time. But you do really need to go through your scarves and pick and choose which ones you actually wear and which ones you don’t really like. If you have 30 scarves hanging on the back of your bedroom door that you don’t wear anymore, they’re just taking up space. What’s more, someone else could be enjoying those scarves! So hand them down to family members or friends who you think would like them.

Know Your Scarves

Do you favour the thinner, pussy-bow-type scarves, or are you more of a blanket scarf girl? Do you rock the infinity scarf or prefer your scarves to hang down long on either side? Maybe you’re owning all of these styles! And that’s fine, but it’s important to know that you cannot wear all scarves the same way. They need to be styled differently based on shape, size, fabric, and print/colour.

Thin scarves can be worn delicately around the neck, sometimes tied in a bow or small knot. These usually come in silks or satin-y materials for a very romantic look.

Infinity scarves are very casual, and usually come in knits or cotton blends. These are great for accessorising a winter coat when you’re out and about, because they usually do create noticeable volume that can be distracting if worn alone. Pair yours with your coat or a jacket, and switch it out for a statement necklace once you get to where you’re going.

Here are some examples we’ve put together of how you can wear your favourite scarves:

Mint Velvet scarf | Michael Kors drawstring trousers | French Connection t-shirt | Karen Millen belt | Karen Millen coat | Kurt Geiger heels | Mango earrings

Classic Scarves can be in any material; usually a cotton or wool blend. It tends to be pretty long and open at each end, unlike the infinity scarf. These are perfect for wrapping around the neck in different knot styles, or letting fall loose on either side. You can also belt your classic scarf to create a sharper waist definition.

Blanket Scarves are a huge trend right now, and perfect for the colder winter months. They’re large in size, like a blanket, and are usually a heavier material like wool or something similar. They often come in pretty neutral hues and patterns, so they present the perfect opportunity to accessorise even more. Wear it like an open cape, or belt it for waist definition.

Here are some examples we’ve put together of how you can wear your favourite scarves:

Hallhuber high waisted skirt | Hobbs blouse | MAC lipstick | Carvela trainers | Topshop scarf | Topshop coat | Calvin Klein clutch

Be creative with your scarves. Play with different colours, fabrics, styles and patterns to see which ones work best for you. Try wrapping scarves around your head like a turban, or through your hair like a colourful woven braid. Wear them around your waist like a belt or tie them to your favourite handbag. If you need advice when it comes to styling your scarves, or other winter accessories, reach out to our friendly styling team! We love to hear from you.

The importance of a good haircut

, , , , , ,

A good haircut will bring together your overall look and can be styled in different ways to suit your outfits, so it’s important to get it right!

I bet you’re thinking “if it’s not enough that my outfits needs to be stylish and my make-up flawless but now they’re telling me my hair needs to be great too!” Well don’t worry, our hair stylists are here to guide you through the importance of a good haircut and what you need to do to achieve your perfect look.

We all get bored of our hair and want to switch it up every once in a while, but it’s important to keep to the tones and cut to suit your complexion and face shape.  Having a face to face consultation with a good hair stylist will have a huge impact on your look as you’ll know exactly what will work for you.

A good haircut will frame your face and have it looking healthy, and a regular trim will help with split ends and general growth of your hair. It can take it from dry and damaged to healthy and glossy. If you colour your hair then it’s important you find the right tones to suit your complexion. There are numerous shades of one colour, so let the experts find the perfect one for you. So to sum up, what I’m saying is take care of your locks and don’t just leave it to chance that your hair will always look good.

Looking after your hair between salon visits is easy with the right products and tips, and will have your hair feeling like you’ve just left the hairdressers everyday! When using appliances on your hair, such as a hair-dryer or straighteners, it’s vital you use a protective heat spray as they can damage your hair and dry it out. If you prefer up-do’s and need your hair to stay in place all day, a good quality hairspray is essential.  Investing in the holy grail product of Moroccan oil (Argan oil) will help your hair in so many ways; it prevents split ends, controls frizzy hair if this is a problem for you, and the oils keeps your hair nice and shiny. A hair mask once a week will deep condition your luscious locks to give them the moisture they need and have your hair feeling softer than ever. Spending that bit extra on good products will benefit you more in the long run.

Spend and save shopping tips

, , , , , , , , , , ,

soend-and-save-stylist-tips-for-shopping-style-doctors-personal-stylistsThere is one true love in my life, bound by an breakable partnership; Sir.Val, my Valentino shoulder bag! And what makes me smile every single time I peer to my side and see him looking as blissful as the day I first acquired him (no change to spare from £600) is that he is one of 3 High end designer products in my wardrobe.

Consider me the Matchmaker of high street fashion meets high end. I am not an on-trend kinda gal, however if the fashion at the time suits my wardrobe personality then high street is my bestie. How to blend the two is the task most get confused with. You may also wonder ‘how do I lower my acceptable level of quality to incorporate a pair of ripped £50 jeans? Think about your staple ‘go-to’ items; the pieces that require timeless quality. I would invest in items such as handbags, scarfs, the perfect knit, belts and jacket/coats. These pieces are ones that you would pull out every season and still expect them to feel well loved yet brand new.

How many of you have over 15 scarves? And if you say no then allow me to call your bluff. Yet, how often would we instantly reach for the same 2 or 3? This is because that ‘favourite’ scarf naturally works with our complexion and also makes every outfit look ‘WOW’!

Now, how do I put that timeless cashmere knit crew (I love a Ralph Lauren turtle neck) with a lower quality, high fashion item? Simple- get creative! Find amazing skirts, trousers and printed bottoms in places such as Topshop or New Look. As an example, I would happily pair that perfect knit with an Oasis pleated midi skirt. Top the look off with a think waist belt and ankle boots.

One last notable tip- if your pockets are not so deep and you want to experiment with top quality designer products then start digging through your local vintage store. There is a good reason why Pollini and Bally bags are found in abundance, it is because they stand the test of time! Quality is everything, even if it is second hand. Dressing for your new shape after a baby

, , , , , , , , ,

back-to-work-workwear-style-inspiration-style-doctors-personal-shoppersWe understand that after pregnancy when your shape often changes, you may not be back to your previous size, your wardrobe no longer ‘feels right’ anymore. At Style Doctors we are all about dressing for the here and now and whatever shape you are now we encourage you to embrace it and dress with confidence.

Try not to compare yourself to what you used to look like, this will only cause you to be dissatisfied. If you feel comfortable and happy with your shape and outfit, it will show. Don’t forget that if your shape changes those jeans you had when you were 22 might not even be in style anymore let alone fit. Your wardrobe doesn’t need to change much but it’s important not try and squeeze into your old clothes as it will just make you feel uncomfortable and also it just does not look good. So no holding onto the past and take the change as being something new and exciting (after all shopping is fun). The same applies if you’ve lost weight after having a baby or if your whole body shape has change, which it often can.

Back to work

When getting used to your new shape it can be difficult to know what to wear for that first day back at work. Don’t worry, we will now share with you some style advice that will leave you wondering why you were ever worried about what you were going to wear. Going back to work is never the most exciting thought after time away but if you have a stylish new wardrobe you’ll be delighted to get back to the office to show everyone your new look.

Main Image: Standard | Shop the look: Floral blouse | Blazer | Cigarette trousers | White blouse | Lipstick | Belt | Nail varnish | Burgundy bag | Watch| Pointed ballet flats

When making your new investments a classic jacket is one of your main pieces, be wise in you colour choice as this needs to compliment your various work looks. Whether you’re a pencil skirt or cigarette trouser kind of girl, there will be plenty of different styles to flatter you new figure. Lots of women make the mistake of wearing baggy clothing thinking this will hide any parts of their body they dislike, when actually you should be shaping and defining your figure (this can be done really well by adding a belt). Having a selection of blouses will switch up your look, from a crisp white shirt to muted coloured prints – you will look professional as well as stylish. To finish off all you’re missing is that comfy and chic pair of shoes and a timeless handbag to carry all your essentials.

Most of all it’s all about the fit. Once you have a wardrobe full of clothes that fit and flatter, you’re ready for anything.

If you’re struggling to dress for your new shape and would like to know what would work best to flatter your figure and boost your confidence, book a session with one of our expert stylists. Whether you’re looking for a new work wardrobe or even outfits for everyday wear, we have various style packages to suit any of your needs.
